This is a wonderful vintage Native American handmade belt buckle evoking images of a Steers and a Butterfly both seen often in historic jewelry. We believe this is a revival of an earlier design but still older possibly from the mid-century. We came to this conclusion based on the HIGH QUALITY green turquoise and the handmade modernist bezel as well as the buckle on the back not being solid wire. The FABULOUS STAMP WORK was clearly done by a MASTER SMITH. You can imagine how difficult it would be to stamp out the outside edge with no obvious mistakes. The shallow repousse represent the wings of the butterfly and the etched cows are have a ton of personality. Both are fine examples of early designs that were the inspirations for this wonderful vintage buckle.
